Rugby League International

Tim Brasher is a former Australian Rugby League international widely regarded as one of the premier fullbacks of the 1990s. He enjoyed a distinguished professional career at club and representative level, noted for his speed, skill, positional play and consistency.

Brasher’s first-grade career began when he was still at          school: Balmain Tigers coach Warren Ryan brought him into first grade in 1989 while he was completing his Higher School Certificate. That year he played at centre in Balmain’s Grand Final loss to the Canberra Raiders. Still considered the greatest of all Grand Finals!

Over nine seasons with Balmain (1989–97), Brasher became one of the club’s greats, playing 185 games and scoring 538 points, and was later named on the bench in the Balmain Tigers Team of the Century.

At representative level, Brasher was first selected for New South Wales in State of Origin in 1992, eventually making 21 Origin appearances and becoming a mainstay of the Blues through the 1990s.

He also earned selection for Australia, appearing 16 times for his country. Brasher was a key member of Australia’s World Cup-winning squads in 1992 and 1995, playing at fullback in both finals at Wembley Stadium. In the 1995 Rugby League World Cup final Australia defeated England, with Brasher contributing a memorable performance.

After leaving Balmain, Brasher joined the South Sydney Rabbitohs (1998–99), making 40 first-grade appearances for the club.

He finished his career with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2000, where he was appointed captain, before being forced into retirement due to injury.

Post-playing career, Brasher has remained involved with rugby league and community activities and is respected for his contributions both on and off the field.
