STEVE “CHIMES” GILLIS

LEADING PLAYER MANAGER | RUGBY LEAGUE POWERBROKER | HOST “CHIMING IN” PODCAST

Steve “Chimes” Gillis — one of rugby league’s most respected and well-connected player managers.

Steve has spent more than 30 years immersed in rugby league at the highest level and is widely regarded as one of the game’s most trusted and influential figures.

He began his career with News Limited, completing a four-year journalism cadetship before becoming a sports reporter with the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror. Across 13 years in the newsroom, Steve built relationships with the people who shape the game — players, coaches, administrators, and club executives — giving him a rare insider perspective on rugby league.

That experience paved the way for a successful transition into sports management, where Steve has built a reputation for integrity, loyalty, and long-standing relationships. Many of the game’s former stars trust Steve so highly that they have since asked him to guide the careers of their own children.

Alongside rugby league, Steve has also built a strong presence in rugby union, managing a talented group of Super Rugby and international players while maintaining close relationships across Australia’s professional franchises and governing bodies.

Steve also hosts the “Chiming In” podcast, where he draws on decades of experience to deliver honest and entertaining conversations with players, coaches, and personalities from across the sporting world.

JEM founder Jane Elkin has known Steve for more than 20 years as a trusted industry colleague and friend, making his inclusion in the collective a natural fit.

With an unrivalled network and decades inside the game, Steve offers audiences a rare behind-the-scenes look at the personalities, politics, and moments that shape elite sport.

Steve is available for MC roles, speaking, and panel events, where his insight and storytelling bring audiences closer to the inner workings of professional sport.
