Mark Hughes OAM is a former professional rugby league player, premiership winner and NSW State of Origin representative whose life story extends well beyond the football field.

A proud Hunter Valley product, Mark enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning two premierships with Newcastle and representing New South Wales in State of Origin. His career at the highest level developed the resilience, leadership and determination that would later become central to his work off the field.

In 2013, at just 36 years of age, Mark was diagnosed with high-grade brain cancer. Following his diagnosis, he co-founded the Mark Hughes Foundation, which has raised more than $35 million for brain cancer research and support.

A masterful and deeply engaging storyteller, Mark takes audiences from his Hunter Valley beginnings through elite sport, adversity and some of life’s greatest challenges. His powerful “Make Today Count” message encourages audiences to embrace perspective, purpose and the opportunity to make a difference every day.
